How May We Connect With You?
The reasons folks join Clear Lake Presbyterian Church (CLPC)
are as varied as each individual member,
however, a common theme seems to have emerged over the years.
Many express what they find at CLPC as "a feeling of coming home." In a
human sense, "home"
satisfies our basic needs for shelter, food and relationship/love.
In a spiritual sense, what is being expressed was described by our Lord
in John 4:14 as, "..whoever drinks the water I give him will never
thirst. In
terms of "shelter" while we don't have a cathedral
that took 500 years to build, we do have very nice facilities but what
we seek to give the inquirer is a sense that
we all live in God's house, the roof of which spans the heavens. In
terms of "relationship" and "love"
we seek to welcome people wherever they happen to be in their spiritual
journey. You'll find a diversity
at CLPC that spans the continuum of reformed Christian tradition.
Seeking a
Spiritual Foundation
In Matthew 7:26, our Lord says, "These words I speak to your
are not
incidental additions to your life, homeowner improvements to your
standard
of living. They are foundational words, word to build a life on."
(paraphrased- Ref.
E. Peterson, "The Message") Jesus goes on to describe how such a
life can withstand the stresses of life, whatever their source. To
facilitate
this objective there are numerous ministries at CLPC from helping you
explore
the basics of the Christian faith such as the Alpha Program,
to comprehensive Bible Study such as the Kerygma
Bible Class.
Coping With Suffering
Bad things do happen even to good people and we seek to
provide our
members a "framework" and support within which to deal with life
stresses,
whether financial, spiritual, or physical. Pastors are available for
counseling, guidance, and prayer. In addition,
trained Stephen Ministers are available to
listen and care for people who
need a Christian friend to walk beside them during difficult or
stressful times. The Deacons seek to provide
physical and financial help to members in crisis.
Seeking a Life
Foundation for Infant/Child
Ministry to children begins in our nursery, where nurturing is
the focus
and continues through our elementary
Christian education organization, Day School and After School
programs. There
are numerous opportunities for your child to experience music in our
extensive
choir programs, Vacation Bible School, Joy of Sharing
Christmas, and community service projects. For middle
school and high school students, there are retreats and international mission
service projects.
Seeking
Others to Share My Spiritual Walk
CLPC has always had an active Small
Group ministry where each
member of a family may share their joys and sorrows with their peers.
These meeting are commonly held in members homes on a rotating basis
and
for many members have become a vital and important aspect of their
daily
lives. It's great to have friends when you're baptized, married and
buried - it's even greater to have them there at all the times in
between!
Our Deacon Program and Stephens
Ministry also support
one-on-one ministry when our spiritual walks turns into a crawl.
Men and Women Fellowships also provide additional opportunities
for individuals.
Seeking Resources for Discipleship
We provide many opportunities for not only proclamation of the Gospel
message but also for coping with the complexities of living
out our daily lives with all its attendant stresses in the workplace,
family,
community and world. From an organized approach to respecting our
environment to getting engaged in the mainstream of difficult
moral and theological issues are examples of efforts to provide our
families and community with opportunities to make a difference with
their
lives.
To summarize, we invite you to read Our Mission: on our
Home Page, which is an attempt ot embody all these priciples.
