What:
Cross in the City (CITC) is a faith-based non-profit organization geared toward at-risk, gang-involved, and gang-associated youth. Approximately 450 youth and families receive services from CITC on a yearly basis.
Why:
Since the tragedy of nine-eleven, the national focus has understandably been shifted to homeland terrorism. This as created a short fall nationally where Gang Task Force and Divisional Gang Unit officers are being reassigned to tactical and patrol units. Gangs have been given the golden opportunity to operate and flourish with little resistance from law enforcement due to this reassignment. Without proper guidance and role modeling, these at-risk youth have and will continue to stray towards the comfort and structure of the gang lifestyle.
How:
Cross in the City provides a wide assortment of services to youth and families from the Pasadena and greater Houston area. With the help of volunteers from the community, local churches, and the City of Houston Mayor’s Anti-Gang office, CITC has allowed youth the opportunity to experience a safe supervised environment to frequent and learn.
