Welcome Katie Cummings!

At the May 29 Congregational Meeting, the call of Ms. Katie Cummings to be ordained and installed as Associate Pastor for Discipleship at CLPC was approved unanimously.
The position will include pastoral care and visitation, small group and adult education leadership, preaching, and lots of other pastoral ministry.
Most of all it will engage a person of great character in all kinds of significant ministry in your life and the lives of your loved ones.
Katie will be ordained at her home church in Virginia in mid-July and then join our staff on Monday, July 18.
Katie Cummings is a native Texan, and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a B.A. in the Plan II Honors Liberal Arts Program in 1989. After college, Katie set out for the east coast, where she worked at a retreat center on the Chesapeake Bay, helped plan the 1990 National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, D.C., and then worked at a D.C. law firm as a legislative representative. There Katie met her husband Phil, a native Californian and an attorney in the firm. Katie and Phil have been married almost 13 years, and have one daughter, Leigh (10), who will be in the 6th grade next year.
Katie has just graduated from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary. During seminary, Katie worked as a chaplain at Children’s Hospital of Austin, as an intern at Shepherd of the Hills Presbyterian Church in Austin, and as a teaching assistant in systematic theology. She is passionate about pastoral care, teaching, and preaching. Katie has a heart for nurturing people’s relationships with Jesus Christ and with one another, for helping people discover and use their gifts to serve God, and for extending the love and compassion of Christ in caring ministry. She is thrilled by God’s call to serve Christ at Clear Lake Presbyterian Church as Associate Pastor for Discipleship.
Before moving to Austin in response to God’s call to the ministry of Word and Sacrament, Katie and her family were very active in their home church, Lewinsville Presbyterian Church, in McLean, Virginia. At LPC, Katie was involved in starting ChristCare small group ministry (she is a trained ChristCare Equipper), teaching adults, revitalizing Presbyterian Women, and supporting ministry to families. Phil was also active in leadership of ChristCare ministry, sang in the choir, and served as an elder. Leigh sang and rang in the children’s choirs.
Katie and her family will move to Clear Lake in late June. They are so excited about being part of the community! They will appreciate you prayers as they transition from Austin into new friendships, new jobs, and new adventures.
