Vision for the Nations

Have you spent time thinking about what is God’s vision for us? All throughout the scriptures we read of what is important to Him. However, we often go about our business without spending enough time making sure that we understand the basics of the Christian life and thus we miss out on much of the beauty and excitement of what God is doing among us.

Every Christian should learn about these basics even if they don’t feel called to devote their lives to each expression of them. Take missions. It is the spread of the Gospel both in our own backyard and all over the world. Christ died on a cross so that all peoples of the world would have a witness of him in their midst. Yet, it has become a pariah in Christian circles, filled with mystery and fear. How silly! God’s heart burns bright in His love for us and in His desire to see everyone saved. Many ignore one of the most active, interesting and exciting aspects of the Christian life because we don’t understand it and are afraid to look into it. Afraid to get involved, we turn away from an area where God’s presence is easily felt. For instance, did you know that evangelical Christianity is the single fastest-growing major religion in the world?

We offer a Sunday School class on missions called ‘Vision For The Nations’. This is an exciting class that covers much of the “mysterious” world of missions and explains it in layman’s language. This 13-week video-based class is the condensed version of  “Perspectives on the World Christian Movement” a seminary-level award-winning class. VFN will show you how the gospel is spreading throughout the world and give you a firm grasp on the basics of missions whether you are looking for opportunities for involvement or just to improve your understanding of God’s heart.

Students will be introduced to a variety of resources to increase their knowledge of the field of missions whether these are done in the US or overseas.

Revelation 7:9 After this I looked and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb.

World Religions Class

This class is an excellent opportunity to learn about the most influential religions in the world today. As part of this class we cover the basic beliefs of Animism, Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, New Age, Taoism, Buddhism, Mormonism, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Witchcraft, Satanism, How cults work and Secularism.

You can expect to better understand crucial differences between Christianity and other religions and how they influence our schools, our faith, and our society. This is a practical class that focuses on the most widespread religions, their contemporary practice and how we can be better witnesses for Christ.

This class meets for 18 Sundays however you are welcome to drop-in for the topics that most interest you or to attend all sessions. When able, we will try 2 to 3 field trips to temples in Houston. Also, classes are augmented with videos and discussions shown outside of class.

pspDr. Billy Graham

This highly-recommended class is not offered in the same church every year. The locations vary and can be found at http://Houstonperspectives.com it appears in our list of classes because we can think of no better missions class taught today.

Imagine the difference it would make in your life if God Himself would transport you to heaven and reveal to you the world as He sees it from His perspective in heaven.

You would feel once again God's Great compassion for the lost.  He would reveal how well His servants are doing to reach the lost.  You'd see first hand the importance that prayer has in releasing His power.  You would marvel at the testimonies of people that have just recently responded to the Gospel in previously unreached tribal groups.

God would reveal to you the areas of the world where the need is greatest. You might even receive a vision of how God can use you and your talents to finish the task of taking the Gospel to the lost.  In short, God would show you His heart.  How could you ever be the same again?

The Perspectives Study Program may not be as effective as actually spending time with God in Heaven but it has been used by God to open the eyes of God's people to the marvelous things He is doing to help the  Church complete the Great Commission. Once Christians see "God's Big Picture" and get to understand God's design and goals in the world today, their lives are changed forever. They emerge as World Christians who are uniquely prepared to impact the world by thinking and acting globally with knowledge.

Take time to Explore God's heart - take the PERSPECTIVES STUDY PROGRAM This year!

The Perspectives program is a 15-week Biblical journey, which will effectively mirror the global heart of God within your heart. This class will cover some aspects of what God is doing around the world while you interact with some of today’s most dynamic and influential leaders in world evangelization.

 Perspectives can:

  • Integrate God’s purpose of world evangelization with your daily walk.

  • Increase your effectiveness in evangelizing your community.

  • Build bridges of cultural and racial reconciliation.

What is the focus of Perspectives?

  • Biblical:  What is the scriptural basis for God’s redemptive plan for the nations?

  • Historical:  How has God been at work since the time of Christ to further this purpose?

  • Cultural:  How do we make the gospel relevant to people in other cultures?

  • Strategic:  What are the most effective ways to complete this plan?

     What makes it unique?

  • Perspectives is probably the best missions class to date. Developed by missionaries and various experts at the U.S. Center for World Mission in Pasadena, California, this cross-denominational course has been offered worldwide with over 50,000 graduates.

  • A different expert teaches each Perspectives class. A premier group of speakers will be coming from all over the U.S. to instruct and inspire you.

  • For the serious theological student, credit is available from The College of Biblical Studies and Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (3 credit hours). This credit can be transferred to other colleges on a case-by-case basis.
