International
Student Family Friendship Program
Should
we have a ministry amongst international students? Consider this:
-
Over
600,000 International students come to the US each year. God sent
them here. Each of them often experiences loneliness and responds
to genuine interest. However, about 85% go home having never set
foot in an American’s home nor established a good friendship in
this country.
-
The
“cream of the crop” comes to the US to study. They represent
the top 5% of the people of their country. 45% of the current
heads of state studied in the US.
-
Over
the next 25 years, about 70% of the students presently studying in
the US will become leaders in education, business, government and
the military in their own nations.
-
Approximately
60% of international students come from countries that reject the
gospel. Where will it be easier to reach them?
-
It
is much less costly to reach unsaved internationals in the US and
it may be the only time that they will ever hear the gospel and
meet Christians. There is minimal training necessary for this type
of ministry. Mostly add care.
The
campuses of the University of Houston and San Jacinto College offer us
a vast potential for cross-cultural ministry. And they have opened
their doors to CLPC and to you. We want to take advantage of this
opportunity and so we have joined forces with the International
Student Family Friendship Program.
ISFFP
fosters friendships between American families and international
students of San Jacinto College and the University of Houston. ISFFP
participating churches include: Bayshore Baptist, Central Assembly of
God, Deer Park Assem. of God, Deer Park First Baptist, Grace Community
and others.
The
World Mission Committee of CLPC sees an opportunity to serve and to
minister to these students that is God-given. Please let us know if
you’d like to learn more about this fun opportunity to share this
experience.
This
ministry primarily entails establishing a friendship with the student,
looking for opportunities to help him/her to learn our culture, to ask
questions in a non-threatening environment, and so on.. think if you
were in their country how many questions you'd have. They need and
really appreciate this ministry. It is something you should do with
your entire family, kids included and give them an opportunity to
broaden their horizons as well. You'll never regret it!
