Local Outreach

"For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me...I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me."     Matthew 25:34-36,40

Our Local Outreach Committee seeks to further social justice and benevolent care in our community by witnessing to the Good News of Jesus Christ in both word and deed. We bring news to the congregation about many ministries: ways to support them, current needs, and recent triumphs. We get involved in activities in partnership with other churches. We provide opportunities for mission workand through church-wide events ("Blitzes") and by the gathering of food, toiletries, and clothing for the food, resale shops and shelter. We encourage small groups and Sunday school classes to help meet special needs through one-time projects.

The committee currently supports the following agencies with time, money, in-kind gifts, use of facilities and/or a wealth of volunteers and welcomes new ideas and new members. You’re invited to help!

Through mentoring, Cross in the City works with at-risk youth so they may become leaders in their community. The youth are involved in community service projects and enjoy art and music projects. Volunteers are needed to tutor and mentor, as well as serve on the board and committees. CITC relies 100% on donations from individuals to pay for these programs. CITC is working in cooperation with the municipal Courts of the City of Pasadena to provide alternative sentencing programs for delinquent and truant juveniles and others needing counseling. Cross in the City High School is a fully accredited diploma program for adults that meets once per week for two hours. Most meetings take place at the Cross in the City office, 704 Pasadena Blvd., Suite B, Pasadena, TX 77506.

The Institute For Civility in Government
Two problems threaten the strength of our governing process. One is the lack of civic participation at every level of government. The other is growing polarization in our society. It appears that being disengaged from the system is the norm, and that harshly criticizing one another without engaging in civil dialogue is perfectly acceptable. The Institute for Civility in Government is a catalyst for change, creating the expectation and support for government officials and constituents to model civility in their personal and professional lives. They provide Congressional Student Forums for high school and college students and educational workshops to civic groups, faith communities, and schools. This group meets at Webster Presbyterian Church and is open to all. Several church members are involved.
