outreach: bay area turning point
Best known as a local shelter giving priority to victims of family violence, Bay Area Turning Point provides many other services including a 24-hour crisis hotline, assisting with Protective Orders, and Crime Victim's Compensation. They are the responder for rape victims, and provide groups for violence survivors, rape survivors, incest survivors and other therapeutic counseling. Anti-victimization workshops, violence/abuse prevention workshops, and peer counseling programs are presented to the community and in schools. Self-Reliance is an after-shelter program assisting with employment issues, vocational/educational encouragement, and financial and family matters. The agency was founded in 1991, and church members are involved on its board, foundation, resale shop, and volunteer force. Church members Glenn Morris, Don Brown and Pam Merrill serve on the board, and many volunteers come from Clear Lake Presbyterian.
