CLPC is a place for teenagers to discover a relationship with God and
mature into young men and women of character. Whether it's a mission
trip to Mexico or a wild and crazy lock in, we encourage a commitment to
know and serve God with joy.
"The thing that touches me the most about my church is
how I have been surrounded by love -- the love of God, the love of the
church staff, and the love of fellow members."
- Lizzie Gibson, high-school senior and ordained deacon
The goal of our Youth Ministry is to REACH junior high and high
school students with the good news of Jesus Christ, to CONNECT
them with other Christians, to lead them to GROW in their faith,
and to challenge the growing to actively SERVE and LOVE
God with their whole lives.
Reaching:
We are committed to reaching out to students who are not connected to
Jesus Christ or the church. We always have an open seat available to
someone new.
We regularly hold special events designed for new people to come and get
connected. It could be bowling or bouncy boxing but these events are
usually a lot of fun and great opportunities to bring friends. Check
the latest youth calendar for the upcoming outreach events.
Connecting:
We provide various opportunities for students to connect with each other:
Sunday School -
A focused Bible study on a specific section of the Bible or a topic
related to the Bible. All classes meet at 10:15 AM.
Midweek (Senior High) & Impact (Junior High) -
This is our primary fellowship during the school year. It includes
worship led by a youth praise band and a message relevant to youth
followed by small group Bible study.
Senior High Midweek: Wednesdays, 6:45-8:30 PM in CH
Junior High Impact: Sundays, 6:00 - 7:30 PM
Retreats -
We have quarterly retreats for both junior and senior high. Check the
calendar for the upcoming retreats and sign up outside L107 or by
calling the church office.
Social Events -
Regular social events include parties, rec nights, Astros baseball
games, movie nights, LASER tag, Putt-Putt, and a variety of other
off-site activities
Growing:
Students grow in their faith at Midweek, Impact, and Sunday School, and
we have Confirmation for 8th graders and Power Groups for JH and HS with
the primary goal of leading students into a deeper relationship with
Jesus Christ.
Confirmation for 8th Grade Youth -
This nationally recognized program leads students to commit their lives
to Christ. It involves Sunday School (10:15 AM), retreats and service
projects.
Serving:
Our youth group is not just a Youth Ministry where students are
ministered to. It is a group of Youth in Ministry, working as vital
partners in our church's mission. You will find students singing in
worship bands and choirs, teaching Sunday School, and sitting in
committee meetings. Below are just some of the opportunities for
students to serve at CLPC:
Mission Possible -
Regularly scheduled mission activities in the Houston area include Hope Village, Houston Food Bank, Sheltering Arms, Harbor Light Men’s Shelter, Kid Care, Open Door Mission and street ministry under the bridges and in the parks of our city.
Bel-Canto Youth Choir -
For Grades 6-12, this group meets Sunday from 4:30-6:00 PM in the choir
room. Any student is welcome to come. Involvement in Bel Canto
includes singing in worship and and a bi-annual choir tour.
Summer Mission Trips -
Every summer the intermediate school students head for the border. They work in the colonias along the Texas/Mexico border leading VBS, constructing simple houses and building relationships. Evening is set aside for worship with other churches who are working on similar projects.
The high school youth typically spend their summer mission trip in an urban area where they are involved in a variety of ministries including ministry to : the homeless on the streets, folks living in shelters, the elderly, immigrants, children, runaways and so much more. The past few years have taken us to the Bahamas, Houston, Scotland, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Merida, Mexico, and Reynosa, Mexico. This year, we will spend our mission trip in San Francisco.
Our college students will be traveling to Washington D.C. in May to spend a week in ministry before settling in to summer internships and jobs. They will be working mostly in shelters, on the streets, in refugee centers and in children’s ministries. Last summer they were in Toronto doing similar work.
Koinonia -
The senior-high group has a leadership team. Interested students talk
to Katrina.
Loving:
All youth are encouraged to attend
worship weekly either on Saturday night at 6:00 PM, or Sunday morning
at 9:00 AM or 11:15 AM.
